Anila Ali – Nominee for Irvine City Council with Remarkable Political History

Anila Ali spent most of her early life in England and Pakistan but in 1996, she decided to relocate to Orange County, CA. Her sheer passion for education motivated her to join Lakeside Middle School in Irvine as a Resource Aide. Besides this, Anila pursued her teaching credential as well as Master of Education from Concordia University Irvine. After this, she began serving as an English teacher at South Bay Middle School.




In 2001, she became an active member of the Council of Pakistan American Affairs and started promoting community inclusiveness and cultural exchange. She also documented her findings and experiences in a documentary. Plus, the film was produced by CHRGJ(Center for Human Rights and Global Justice) at the New York University School of Law.



Anila advocates for protecting the rights of minorities all across the globe, especially the justice and equality for women in Pakistan. She also met with members of the House Foreign Relations Committee as well as the White House in order to highlight the plight of minorities throughout the world.

In between the year 2007 and 2008, she locally mobilized the Irvine community and Orange County to raise more than $100,000 dollars for political candidates, Barack Obama and Sukhee Kang. In 2009, she was awarded the 2009 International Leadership Foundation Award for her remarkable efforts in community service and outreach to the mainstream community.



In 2012, Ali served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and represented the 45th Congressional District. Apart from this, she became the first Pakistani to be elected from Orange County. In 2016, she was again elected as a delegate from the 45th Congressional District to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
